Updates from the past month:
- We recently updated the website to hopefully better explain the subscription, how it works, and the different subscription options available.
- We’ve also updated the navigation to be more granular. Now you can easily choose the specific type of skincare product you may be looking for (such as shaving soap, or post-shave balm) whereas before they were all lumped into one section. This means that some of the categories are a bit bare, so we’ll be updating those with new stock soon.
- We’ve done an overhaul of our email design so look out for that
- We’ve restocked the very popular Coconut and Lavender shave cream that was featured in the box a few months ago, as requested by a number of members.
What is The Personal Barber Shaving Club?
If you’re not already a member, you may be wondering what all the fuss is about.
The Personal Barber is the razor subscription that wants to turn your daily chore into a satisfying experience to look forward to.

Every 6 weeks, we curate a selection of only the finest wet shaving gear from all over the world, introducing you to the lesser known brands and small businesses that you don’t see in the supermarkets.

Our latest kit is the “Extra-care box” which will be going out to renewing subscribers between April 1st – May 15th. With this kit we usually feature products that aren’t usually associated with shaving but provide the extra piece of the male grooming puzzle such as a top quality moisturiser and pre-shave wash or scrub.

Mondial is an artisanal shaving brand from Florence, Italy. We’ve worked with them in the past and we were blown away by the high quality lather and unique scents of their products. Originally founded in 1908, their formulations still adhere to the original recipes, focusing on natural ingredients without preservatives and with strong, unique fragrances.
The almond scent is a very traditional fragrance that’s sweet. Fortunately, it’s non allergenic! Despite being labelled a cream, we would refer to this as a “croap” as it’s quite hard, with a consistency somewhere between a soap and a shaving cream. Produces a wonderful lather, bursting with fragrance, that does a fantastic job of protecting and conditioning the skin, leaving it feeling smooth and comfortable.
To Use: Take an almond sized clump of cream and place it in your hand, bowl or mug. Make sure to press it out as far as possible as this increases the surface area for a much quicker lather. Using a damp shaving brush, start lathering up as normal.
A note on allergens: We’ve been assured by Mondial that this is an allergen-free product. However, you should always do a patch test before trying a new skincare item.
Ingredients: Stearic acid, cocos nucifera oil, potassium hydroxide, sodium hydroxide, sodium carbonate, parfum.
Avant is a London based skincare brand that have an extensive range of premium unisex skincare products using scientifically effective formulations that offer visible results. Quality of ingredients and transparency is a main focus of the brand, so much so that they put the ingredients on the front of the packaging, allowing customers to make an informed choice on what they put on their skin. The packaging itself is made from 100% recycled fibres and is 100% recyclable.
We are very excited to be featuring their premium DUO moisturiser in the box as we haven’t had a chance to feature such a high tier item before. Hyaluronic Acid and Jojoba Oil aim to penetrate deep into the skin, helping to hydrate and instantly improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Avocado Oil aims to intensely hydrate and soften your skin with its humectant properties which help retain moisture.
To use: Apply morning and night to freshly cleansed skin. When using after shaving, apply after your post-shave balm has had time to sink in.
Ingredients: Aqua (water), caprylic/capric triglyceride, ethylhexyl palmitate, cetyl alcohol, cetearyl alcohol, dimethicone, sorbitol, sodium polyacrylate, phenoxyethanol, ethylhexylglycerin, stearyl alcohol, maris aqua (sea water), parfum (fragrance), cetearyl glucoside, persea gratissima (avocado) oil, simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) seed oil, potassium cetyl phosphate, ozokerite, sodium dehydroacetate, allantoin, dimethicone crosspolymer, lecithin, xanthan gum, propylene glycol, tocopherol, ascorbyl palmitate, sodium hyaluronate, glucose, citric acid, ci 42090 (blue 1), tropaeolum majus flower/leaf/stem extract, ci 17200 (red 33).
Believing in “Substance over Style”, this Yorkshire based company have gone for simple packaging, focusing instead on the quality of ingredients and formulations used.
Their energising facial scrub is designed to reduce the signs of fatigue whilst the natural Witch Hazel reduces inflammation and decreases oil for clearer, toned skin. Ideal as a pre-shave, the scrub will buffer away dead skin and dirt creating a smooth surface for the razor to run over uninhibited.
Features the signature Rogue UK fragrance, a distinctly modern scent with hints of coconut that smells great although it can seem quite strong at first. Fortunately this mellows out as you rub it in so it’s not too overpowering.
To Use: Best used in your pre-shave shower routine. Take a small dollop and gently rub it in a circular motion all over your face and neck. Avoid the eye areas, they are too delicate for scrubs.
Ingredients: Aqua (water), polyethylene, triethalolamine, carbomer, glycerin, hamamelis virginiana (witch hazel) water, fragrance (parfum), PEG-7 glyceryl cocoate, allantoin, propylene glycol, sodium hydroxymethylglycinate, diazolidinyl urea, alcohol denat (SD alcohol 40-B), disodium EDTA, euglena gracillis extract, butylene glycol, limonene, hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde (lyral), linalool, benzyl benzoate, citral, chelidonine, aloe barbadensis leaf extract, iodopropynyl butylcarbamate, phenoxyethanol, potassium sorbate, tocopherol.
Blue bird are a brand of razor blades made in Egypt by the same company that make Derby Extras but most believe these give a far superior shave. Coated in a chromium-ceramic platinum tungsten polymer to increase razor glide as well as improve edge retention for more shaves per blade. Unfortunately, these blades are no longer produced so this may be the last time you’ll get to see them! Each blade lasts 3-7 shaves before replacing.
The Minora Stainless are a DE brand from Gillette we hadn’t come across before. Made in Russia, they’re very similar to the 7 o Clock greens which are an excellent blade known for being relatively sharp whilst giving consistent shaves. Give 3-7 shaves per blade.
